A clever thing about this mail merge certificate design is that the Excel sheet has dropdowns. When combining a level with a unit name, the ACARA code is generated from a lookup table. This information inputted also dictates which colour and image are used on the certificate. While these things can easily be changed manually, the certificate template was designed to take out any errors. Since these things are automatically generated with Excel Look up tables and InDesign’s styles, there are no mistakes. Also, a lot quicker when generating 100+ certificates as there is no need for manual editing.
