I have been thinking about a way to show an ebook mock up. This is because I have been wanting to showcase some of my work. But how do you showcase the documents that tend to be single sided and mostly viewed on a screen aka “ebooks”? A billboard, booklet or flyer are easy to mock ups online. But what about an ebook mock up. And why do I care so much?
Most of the work I do does tend to fall into a category where it has flexibility in the page layout to be both print and web at the same time. Or at the very least, I only have to change master pages to go from double sided bound booklet to web based book.
But while pondering how to show more of a workbook type document that will be mostly viewed on a screen but is made print quality so that students can print them I wanted some way of capturing this. I do a surprisingly large amount of documents that fall into this category. Not just workbooks but also other business and marketing documents such as sales sheets, one-page handouts, brochures and whitepapers.
I have opted to show the design as both a single page and on an iPad.
Using freely available mock ups with smart layer capability I have added these two different items together. I believe this does show the versatility of these documents. So now I can show an ebook mock up. I have two versions, one for A4 pages and one for letter pages. Because I design for both U.S. and international markets.
By always showing these types of work using this mock up template it gives people a clear indication as to how the designs are different from each other because the “background noise” is always the same.
